Review: La Roche-Posay moisturizers ‘Hydraphase Intense Riche’, ‘ Toleriane Ultra’ & ‘Hydreane Light’

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Wintertime is fast approaching and as much as I love the idea spending time wrapped in oversized sweaters sipping on Starbucks’ Caramel Brûlé Latte by the roaring fire, the realist in me is knows my skin is going to battle.

I’ve heard excellent reviews from people suffering from sensitive skin experiencing immediate relief by using La Roche-Posay products.  Their product range is paraben-free – a huge plus.  I decided to try these moisturizers out for two weeks and compare the pros and cons.

Hydraphrase Intense Riche claims intensive rehydrating care long-lasting efficacy.  The cream comes in an inverted anti-contamination airless pump.  I can tell right away that I will not be able to use the entire product. The cream is thick and smooth once you start applying.   It is not as fast absorbing as the other moisturizers and it leaves a greasy feel on the skin.  I really do not like the feeling on my skin, but I can tell you what I do like.  It does exactly what it claims to do.  My skin feels hydrated throughout the entire day and I rarely feel the need to re-apply during the day.

One week follow-up:  I have a love-hate relationship with this cream.  The benefits are immediate and long-lasting but I hate how I need to bring out the oil-blotting tissues to reduce the shininess throughout the day.
Toleriane Ultra is a new product that claims to have 0% preservatives and is paraben/fragrance/alcohol/colorant/lanolin free.  Oh look!  Another space-age looking bottle but this one claims to be anti-contamination, anti-oxidation, anti-dried-up residue, and anti-waste.  I admit I’m excited to try this bad boy out.  You need to turn the pump in order to get the product out and when you do the product is incredibly thick.  It applies smoothly and consistently and it is fast absorbing for such a thick cream.

One week follow-up:  This product sucks.  I’m not even sorry for being blunt.  I started noticing deep painful cyst-like acne forming around my nose and forehead.  NOPE.  They immediately disappeared after discontinued use.  Similar reviews yielded similar results from people experiencing the same problem.  Yuck.

Hydreane Light claims to moisturize and reduces skin sensitivity.  Simple.  I like that. The cream is medium thickness and the application is smooth and fast absorbing.  There is zero greasy feeling and it feels like I’m not wearing moisturizer.  Score!  One small pea-size drop is all that I need to effectively cover my entire face.  There really is not a whole lot bad I can say about this product.  My skin feels immediately relieved and calm.

One week follow-up:  This is my favourite product.  I AM IN LOVE.  La Roche-Posay really hit the nail on the head with this one.  My skin reacts perfectly to it, and it is an excellent base for any make-up routine.  I highly recommend this.
